Raila’s Term as AU Representative comes to an End

The African Union Commission (AUC) Chairperson Moussa Faki, in a letter addressed to Raila Odinga, acknowledged the former Prime Minister’s input in the successful transformation of the NEPAD Agency to the African Union Development Agency (NEPAD).

He congratulated him for his role in elevating the importance of infrastructure development within the Continental agenda. Faki also wished Raila all the best in his future endeavours.

The letter comes at a time when Raila has been facing calls to be stripped of his international duty given the numerous rallies he has been holding.

Senator Samson Cherargei of Nandi had called for the Deputy President, William Ruto, to appoint a new representative in place of Raila in order to resolve the conflict in Ethiopia, as the former President, Uhuru Kenyatta, had declined the role of peace envoy for the talks.

However, despite our attempts to reach Raila for a comment, we have not been successful. The African Union’s letter serves to acknowledge the pivotal role that Raila played in the transformation of the NEPAD Agency to the African Union Development Agency, and reiterates the Union’s faith in him to continue to contribute in other possible assignments.
