With time running out, Azimio La Umoja leader Raila Odinga has warned President William Ruto that he has until Wednesday midnight, March 8, to meet their demands.
Speaking at Parliament Buildings on Wednesday, Odinga gave the government an ultimatum to address the high cost of living, recruitment of new IEBC commissioners, and opening of its servers.
The former Prime Minister also criticized the government for holding prayer rallies when Kenyans were struggling with the high cost of living.
He stated that subsidies to food and education must be restored, and the cost of basic commodities and taxes should come down in the next 14 days. Odinga revealed plans to lead a mass rally to State House, Nairobi to pressure the president if the demands were not met.
However, Ruto brushed off the demands and threats, arguing that he would not be coerced into giving in to opposition demands. As the deadline draws closer, it remains to be seen whether the government will meet the demands by Wednesday midnight or face a mass rally to State House, Nairobi.
Ultimately, it is to be hoped that the president will acknowledge and address the grievances of the people and ensure the country’s stability and peace.
