Mentally ill man steals prado, knocks down 7 people

In a shocking incident, a 31-year-old man has been arrested by the police in Kisumu for dangerous driving, after he collided with a restaurant in the Kondele area, injuring five people. According to reports, the suspect had allegedly taken his father’s Toyota Prado without permission from the Kibos area at around 9 pm, and drove recklessly towards Kondele.

Joseph Nganga, the Nyanza Regional traffic boss, revealed that the suspect first hit a motorcyclist from behind, injuring him and two other passengers. Shockingly, the suspect did not stop there and continued driving, eventually crashing into the eatery where the five victims were dining. Fortunately, the injuries sustained by the victims were not life-threatening, and they were later discharged from the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital, after receiving treatment for bruises and cuts.

As the suspect fled the scene, he was chased by angry boda boda operators, who eventually caught up with him as he was driving towards the Kisumu central police station. However, the suspect did not surrender easily and collided with two more motor vehicles on the way. Nganga confirmed that the injured individuals totaled seven, including the initial three injured in the motorcycle accident.

The driver’s parents told the police that their son is mentally challenged, which raises questions about the mental state of the suspect at the time of the incident. The suspect is currently in custody and will be charged for the relevant traffic offences. The incident has once again highlighted the need for strict traffic regulations, and for motorists to observe traffic rules and regulations while on the road to avoid such accidents.

The authorities are urging all drivers to take responsibility for their actions while driving and to be aware of the consequences of reckless driving. It is important to remember that reckless driving not only endangers the lives of those in the vehicle but also puts other road users and pedestrians at risk. The police are calling on all motorists to prioritize safety on the roads to prevent such incidents from happening in the future.
